Fall Refocus

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay asideevery weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race

that isset before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.

Hebrews 12:1,2a -- John 20:1,14,16-18

After a time of summer refreshment, we begin to refocus! To refocus is to have the attention adjusted. Something might have been overlooked. One way to refocus is to reduce distraction. Each year at Saint John fall becomes a time for refocus on things that matter most. For the people of our congregation this means God’s word and worship!

May we as God’s children come to the Father of spirits and live in faith before him this season? May we lay aside other things and become more intentional in the reading and learning of our God’s word? Our adult Sunday study begins and will be focusing on the Old Testament for the entire year. Tuesday morning Bible class also continues to meet, as well as Sunday School classes for our younger ones. May we also make special efforts to be faithfully

in the presence of God in the Divine Service? This is where he meets us all with his Law and his Gospel of saving grace!

Yes, let us lay aside every weight, every sin, every distraction of our lives. As we run the race of faith before us let us look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of all faith! Let us refocus on the things that matter most, God’s word and his worship in our lives!
