Sharing Together!

I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. The cup of blessing that webless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not aparticipation in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 1 Corinthians 10:15-17 ESV

Last month in my newsletter article I mentioned that God gives enough and overflowing of his forgiving presence in Jesus Christ. While quoting from St. James I mentioned that God’s word reminds us as his children that we have all received grace upon grace! It is his “greater grace!” This is the very reason why we come frequently to feed on what God gives as we gather. We are blessed as his people and blessed to share together. In fact, we are blessed as we share! Paul mentioned the “participation” God’s people have in the Lord’s Supper as they share in the body and blood of Christ. God’s people gather to hear, to remember and to participate for they know Jesus’ promise to be ever present among them. They also share the meal where they regularly hear his words, “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” As the Lord’s own people we join in a regular remembrance of our Lord’s presence sharing the meal together each week. This privilege given us as his people is outlined for us in scripture. Jesus says, “Do this as often as you drink it in my remembrance…” As we share in worship together we share more than just a meal. We come in faith, hear again his blessing and so share in his forgiving presence! And, as Paul says, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread! Now we begin the summer season. It is a season marked with change and even our service times change. Yet, there is still one bread, one cup and one people who share the one Faith together! Thanks to God for those things that never need change! Let us over this summer season remain together, sharing Jesus’ presence as we share that regular remembrance in our weekly worship! Pastor
