Servants at St. John!

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord…” 1 Corinthians 12:4, 5

All God’s people are servants in his kingdom. On the local level, there are particular servants in any given church. A “deaconess” program has begun among us in our congregation of faith! The word deaconess in scripture refers to a woman serving in God’s church in a particular way. These Servants of St. John will be aiding the pastor, working with the board of elders in a wonderful opportunity for outreach to our members and guests.

St. Paul says there are varieties of gifts and service but the same Spirit and Lord! These varieties of ways in which we serve are all exercised for the common good! The St. John deaconess program will become active in reaching out to our lonely, sick, or drifted members. Follow up contacts may also be made to those who have visited for worship. The group has met once so far for initial planning. I will oversee these efforts of our deaconesses. I will also oversee the service of our men as elders and communion assistants.

The Lord bless our service to him and to one another here at St. John, leading us to work together and share all his gifts for the common good!
